Barbara’s World Of Horses And Ponies Their Care And Training The Woodhouse Way Horse Training Book

Barbara’s World Of Horses And Ponies Their Care And Training The Woodhouse Way Horse Training Book

By Barbara Woodhouse
Publisher: Summit Books, 1984, ISBN: 0-671-46141-9
From the author of No Bad Dogs comes the book discusses the choosing of a pony, its care, grooming and training, proper riding equipment, and breeding. Barbara Woodhouse was a woman who was ahead of her time. Long before John Lyons, Monty Roberts, Clinton Anderson, Pat Parelli, Cesar Milan and the plethora of other horse & dog whisperers and the commercialization of "Natural Horsemanship", Mrs. Woodhouse had been extolling the virtues of quiet communication and understanding of animals. While not heavy on advanced training, the book does an admirable job outlining Mrs. Woodhouse's method of teaching horses and their riders the art of calm, gentle basic training that forms the foundation of the education of every responsible equine citizen. Black & white photos & illustrations. New with full color dust jacket, but dust jacket has remnants of stickers & a few small tears from handling in the store.

Riding To Hounds In America An Introduction For Foxhunters Book Fox Hunters Fox Hunting Booklet

By William P Wadsworth, MFH

Publisher: The Chronicle Of The Horse, Inc  Copyright 1962 12th Printing Revised 1987

This text is designed to be a guide for the transition from rider to foxhunter. It covers preliminary matters such as arrangements to hunt & thoughts on horse, tack, clothing, & final preparations for the day before. There follows a brief chapter on hounds, an explanation of the way hunts are organized, a chapter on the fox & one on the way the hunt actually functions in the field. Perhaps the most important chapter for the novice is the one on etiquette, by means of which the beginner may avoid some of the pitfalls which may make him appear impolite. A glossary of words which may be strange to non-foxhunters (not to mention non-riders) is appended, as is an introductory list of good books on hunting, all highly recommended. The "bible" of foxhunting for many & a rare find. Even though this was written many years ago, most of the same principles are still followed today. Has several black/white photos & humorous artwork by Custer Cassidy. Cover has original price of $3.50 on it & minor wear to cover corners.
