Bloodstock Breeding, Third Reprint With Revisions
Vintage Horse Bloodlines Book
By Sir Charles Leicester
Published by J.A. Allen Co., London, 1st published in this revised edition in 1964.
When Bloodstock Breeding was first published in 1957, it was hailed as a standard reference work by an authority on the subject. Bloodstock Breeding is intended to serve and inform all those whose aim is to breed a winning racehorse. The book is presented in two parts: the theory as it affects all bloodstock breeders, and the practice as it has been borne out in the Derby, which remains the pinnacle of British racing. The first section deals with the mechanics of breeding, and discusses all matters from basic principles to flights of fancy involving astrology. The second section traces the history of the Derby 1900-1957 through its winners, with notes on the influence they and their relatives have had. In this section can be found reference to the careers of most well-known horses of this time period, including those who have made an important contribution to breeding overseas, from the United States and Canada to Australia and New Zealand. Sir Charles Leicester spent a life-time in contact with breeding stock in Ireland and elsewhere. His intention was to provide in Bloodstock Breeding information and ideas which would be of importance and practical usefulness not only to thoroughbred breeders, owners and trainers, and students of heredity, but to anyone with a serious interest in the racehorse. Has several black & white photos of foundation stallions during this era & pull out pedigree charts. Has paper dust jacket with minor damage, book looks in excellent condition! Hard to find older edition!

The Masters Of Horsemanship Series Book 2 The Art Of Training Lessons From A Lifetime With Horses Vintage Horse Training Book
By Hans von Blixen-Finecke
Publisher: Self Published, 1996, ISBN: 0939481480
This is the book that the author, former commandant of the Swedish Calvary School said he could not have written as a young man, but only after over 60 years of training horses & riders. It sets down in a wonderfully ordered fashion the Baron's training principles, based on a lifetime of observation, research, & experience. He covers the philosophy of training, biomechanics, what he calls the language of touch, the rider's technique & the link system. And there is full treatment of the movements, described as Purpose & Effect, with the wonderful addition of clear It's Gone Wrong When... and Your Can Prevent It By... headings for each movement. Frankly, these sections alone are so useful it's worth having this book always close at hand! The text is enhanced with clear drawings. For serious riders, this is one not to be missed!
