For the young intermediate horse as it has fairly strong effect on the tongue. Black steel is untreated so will rust as it is meant to do. Comes new on card with Weaver tag, but has some minor rust on it from being stored improperly.

Reinsman 5" D & L Reiner Sweet Iron Ported Mullen Mouth High Port Curb Bit Western Bit

Attractive, well balanced shank with excellent leverage coupled with a medium purchase for good response. Smaller diameter bar adds some bite. Port has enough height to allow tongue relief while maintaining enough pressure for correct head set. Slight tilt or angled port allows bit to rest in the mouth better. Ring at mouthpiece allows use of a snaffle rein. 5" sweet iron ported mouthpiece with 8 1/2" shanks. Port measures approx 1 3/8" from top to bottom of mouthpiece. Clearly stamped 536 on the shank, it is the 836 D & L Reiner. Some rust on sweet iron mouthpiece as intended.

Interesting part about the shanks on this bit are the rings where headstall attach are fixed & swivel part of shanks starts just above mouthpiece. Mouthpiece has copper inlays on sweet iron bars which promotes a soft, moist mouth & stainless steel coated port measures approx 2" to bottom of mouthpiece x 1 7/8" at widest point. Sometimes called a California Pleasure bit, use for head setting the pleasure horse, on a reining horse, or on a horse that needs a lot of whoa. Type of silver overlay on shanks is unknown but may be German silver. Brand unknown. Minor rust spots on unstreated brown shanks & mouthpiece has sminor rust as it is designed to do.

The horse can concentrate on learning & performing. The flexing action gives more isolated control to each side of the mouth while the high port gives palette contact & some tongue relief. The copper rollers & sweet iron or untreated steel with a rusty taste, help promote a soft moist mouth. Port measures approx 2 3/4" from top to bottom of mouthpiece & is 2 1/2" at widest point. 5 1/4" sweet iron ported barrel hinged mouthpiece with 7 3/4" slightly swept back shanks. This mouthpiece is made of untreated steel sweet iron which naturally oxidizes or rusts & has copper inlays. Harmless to horses, it has a sweet taste and promotes salivation. One of Mylers mildest mouthpieces, it is designed for horses considered finished. It has a wide port that allows tongue room & applies little to no tongue pressure, working primarily off the bars, chin & poll. Independent side movement allows the rider to isolate one side for bending, balancing or lifting a shoulder.
